Gold Coast Turn-Of-The-Century

Middlefork was hired to do a complete renovation on this 6,500 SF turn-of-the-century home in Chicago’s famed Gold Coast neighborhood, as well as to add an additional 1,500 SF to the rear of the home.

The original home was stripped back to the exterior brick walls and was completely rebuilt from the inside out. New floor systems, HVAC, windows, electric, plumbing, insulation, and roofing were integrated into the beautiful existing structure. The exterior brick was restored and new, heated limestone stairs were added to the main entry to create a more grand entrance.

The main floor consists of the primary entertaining areas, including formal living and dining rooms, a large eat-in-kitchen/great room, and an additional TV room over the garage. The lower level includes a lacquered, 400 SF lounge with a free-floating 10′ bar, an in-home theater, a walnut-paneled office, and a temperature-controlled wine cellar. Three family bedroom suites and a kid’s lounge comprise the third floor and the fourth floor is made up entirely of the primary suite. The primary bathroom includes a 45 SF shower with integrated warming drawers for towels, a 35 SF steam room with drip lines under the bench for cooling the ankles and feet, and a 35 SF sauna. The primary suite also includes an exercise room and a large dressing room/office.
